Made of copper, this model weighs around 6 kg (plus/minus 0.5 kg). It would be much heavier if we haven’t made it hollow. Tolerance of 0.5 kg is inevitable because all moulds are hand-made, which also explains some minor differences in detail. If you think 6 kg is heavy, let me tell you this: it took us around 300 kg of copper in the entire making process. I don’t believe there would be a second team that disregards cost in pursuit of perfection like us. At least it’s the first time for us to dive into such bold endeavor.
The final product has been cast twice: the first time with wrong material. The handling team who specialized in duplicating antiques for “Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage”, took the liberty of using some foreign material, which was indeed very convenient as far as ingredients are concerned, but not exactly to our satisfaction. Cost-efficiency at the price of comprising previous efforts was out of the question. Therefore it was cast again with pure copper.
The exterior is what we would call “archaized”, in this case, the color of oxidized copper. This is what you will see on ancient copperwares in museums, or incense burners in temples. Such coloration stands out as the best after many times of experiments.
On a skull of Manchurian tiger, the “archaized” exterior combined with shiny teeth gives a really cool look. What you see on the picture is the only 1:1 metal replica in the whole world; I have heard or seen no other.
This has got to be the biggest model we have ever made. Some might contend that “Predator” is the biggest, but “Predator” is not original; every inch of this piece reflects our creativity and hard effort. The process of creation has been most painstaking, particularly the teeth, which cost us god knows how much time. If you look very close at the picture, you can find the photographer’s reflection on the teeth. That is exactly how we have wanted it to be – to look gold-gilt but it’s in fact copper, only with exceptionally subtle polish.
